full list of body piercings

There are many types of body piercings, from the popular earlobe piercings to the lesser-known corset piercings. Let’s learn all about the different body piercing types.

Earlobe piercings are the most common and typically the first type of piercing many people get. However, the ear offers a variety of spots for different types of piercings, each with its unique style and appeal. Here’s a list of popular ear-piercing types:

  1. Helix Piercing: Located on the upper cartilage of the ear.
  2. Industrial Piercing: A double piercing connected by a single piece of jewelry, usually through the upper ear cartilage.
  3. Tragus Piercing: Situated on the small, thick section of cartilage that partially covers the ear canal.
  4. Daith Piercing: Positioned in the innermost fold of the ear cartilage.
  5. Rook Piercing: Located in the cartilage ridge between the outer and inner conch.
  6. Conch Piercing: Can be either inner or outer, located in the middle of the ear cartilage.
  7. Snug Piercing: Placed on the inner cartilage, halfway down the ear’s outer rim.
  8. Forward Helix Piercing: Found on the upper cartilage, closer to the face.
  9. Orbital Piercing: Similar to an industrial, but both piercings are closer together and connected by a small ring.
  10. Anti-Tragus Piercing: Located on the cartilage opposite the tragus, just above the earlobe.

Each of these piercings can be adorned with various types of jewelry, allowing for personal expression and a unique style.

Nose piercings hold various meanings across different cultures and communities. For some, they are symbols of femininity and beauty, as seen in certain African cultures. In India, nose piercings are often a rite of passage for women, marking significant life milestones. In today’s social media-driven world, they’re also a trendy way to express individuality and style to followers.

Whatever the reason behind your choice, there are several types of nose piercings you can explore:

  1. Nostril Piercing: The most common type, located on the curve of the nostril.
  2. Septum Piercing: Positioned in the soft tissue between the nostrils.
  3. High Nostril Piercing: Placed higher up on the nostril, closer to the bridge of the nose.
  4. Bridge Piercing: Situated across the bridge of the nose, between the eyes.
  5. Nasallang Piercing: A more complex piercing that goes through both nostrils and the septum, creating a tri-nasal effect.
  6. Vertical Tip (Rhino) Piercing: Runs vertically through the tip of the nose, from the septum to the top.
  7. Septril Piercing: A combination of a septum and vertical tip piercing, often requiring previous septum stretching.

Each type of nose piercing offers a distinct look and can be customized with various jewelry styles, allowing for a wide range of personal expression.

Lip piercings are a striking way to express your individuality, adding a touch of edginess and allure to your appearance. They can be daring, bold, and even sensual, depending on the type and placement. Let’s explore the different types of lip piercings you can consider:

  1. Labret Piercing: Positioned just below the bottom lip, centered above the chin. This is one of the most classic and versatile lip piercings.
  2. Monroe Piercing: Placed on the upper left side of the lip, this piercing mimics Marilyn Monroe’s iconic beauty mark.
  3. Madonna Piercing: Similar to the Monroe, but located on the upper right side of the lip.
  4. Medusa Piercing: Located in the philtrum, the groove above the center of the upper lip. This piercing is both unique and eye-catching.
  5. Vertical Labret Piercing: Unlike the standard labret, this piercing goes through the bottom lip, with both ends visible on the outer side.
  6. Snake Bites: A pair of piercings positioned symmetrically on either side of the lower lip, resembling fangs.
  7. Spider Bites: Similar to snake bites but placed closer together on one side of the lower lip.
  8. Dahlia Bites: Piercings at the corners of the mouth, creating a striking effect.
  9. Jestrum Piercing: A vertical piercing of the upper lip, going through the philtrum and exiting through the top of the lip.
  10. Cyber Bites: A combination of a Medusa piercing on the upper lip and a labret piercing on the lower lip, creating a balanced and symmetrical look.

Each type of lip piercing offers a unique way to enhance your facial features and express your style. Whether you prefer a subtle look or something more dramatic, there’s a lip piercing to suit your taste.

Each type of facial piercing offers a distinct way to personalize your appearance, making a statement and highlighting your unique style.

Oral piercings are bold, edgy, and offer a unique way to express yourself. If you’re considering an oral piercing, here’s a breakdown of the different types available:

Tongue Piercing:

  • The most common oral piercing, located centrally on the tongue. It’s often adorned with a straight barbell.

Frenulum Piercing (Smiley/Frowny Piercing):

  • Smiley Piercing: Pierced through the upper lip frenulum, the thin tissue connecting the upper lip to the gum.
  • Frowny Piercing: Located on the lower lip frenulum, connecting the lower lip to the gum.

Lip Piercing:

  • There are several types of lip piercings, including:
    • Labret Piercing: Positioned just below the bottom lip.
    • Vertical Labret Piercing: Goes through the bottom lip, with both ends visible.
    • Monroe Piercing: Located on the upper left side of the lip, resembling a beauty mark.
    • Madonna Piercing: Similar to Monroe, but on the upper right side.

Each type of oral piercing adds a distinct flair to your appearance, making a statement about your personality and style. Whether you're looking for something subtle or bold, there’s an oral piercing that can suit your taste.

Genital piercings are a unique form of body modification that involves the adornment of the genital areas. These piercings can be chosen for their aesthetic appeal, as well as for their potential to enhance sexual pleasure. The experience varies depending on the placement and type of jewelry used.

Whether for personal expression or intimate enhancement, genital piercings offer a way to explore and embrace your body in a new and exciting way.

 Male genital, Penis piercings

  • Dydoe: This piercing involves inserting a small piece of jewelry on the head of the penis. It’s not very common.
  • Ampallang: A horizontal piercing through the glans of the penis. The final look is a barbell sitting on both sides of the penis head (left and right).
  • Apadravya: This goes vertically through the glans. The final look is one ball of the barbell sitting beneath and on top of the glans.
  • Kuno: This piercing goes through any point under the foreskin, near the penis head. It’s a foreskin piercing and can only be done by uncircumcised men.
  • Frenum: This is a horizontal piercing done on the underside of the shaft.
  • Dorsal frenum: This is done along the shaft, instead of the underside.
  • Lorum (low frenum): The lorum piercing sits near the scrotum, at the base of the shaft.
  • Jacob’s ladder: This is a form of multiple frenum piercings. You can get multiple frenum piercings along the top or bottom shaft of your penis. The piercings are arranged in a row so they resemble a ladder.
  • Hafada: This is done on the scrotum. It can be a single piercing, or multiple to form a ladder-like appearance.
  • Guiche: This is done on the perineum, the skin between your scrotum and anus.
  • Prince Albert: The Prince Albert goes through the urethral tube and exits behind the head of the penis. It’s the most common penis piercing.
  • Reverse Prince Albert: Here, the urethra is pierced from the top side of the shaft, instead of underneath it.

Female genital, Vagina piercings

  • Christina (Venus): This is done on the fleshy rise where the labia majora (outer vaginal lips) meet. Being a vertical piercing, this piercing extends through the mon pubis.
  • Clitoris: There are two main clitoral piercings; the vertical clitoral hood piercing and the horizontal clitoral hood piercing.
    • Vertical clitoral hood (VCH): The VCH piercing is pretty popular. It’s done by placing the piercing on the skin that sheaths the clitoris, with the jewelry resting on the clitoris. Besides being a cute piercing, it can also increase sexual stimulation.
    • Horizontal clitoral hood (HCH): This is done by piercing horizontally on the skin covering the clitoris.
  • Fourchette: This piercing sits near the perineum, at the vagina’s rear entrance.
  • Isabella: This goes from the base of the clitoris, up to the clitoral hood.
  • Labia: This is an ornamental piercing that is done by piercing the skin around the vulva (it can be done on the labia majora/outer or labia minora/inner).
  • Nefertiti: It runs vertically from the clitoral hood and emerges from the mound of flesh that covers the pubic bone (the mon pubis). It’s like a combination of the Christina piercing and the VCH piercing.
  • Princess Albertina: Princess Albertina passes through the urethra and emerges at the vaginal opening (at the top).
  • Triangle: Not everyone can get this piercing because it depends on your anatomy. It’s placed to allow the jewelry to sit below the clitoral hood and behind the clitoris.

Surface piercings are unique piercings that are placed on flat areas of the body, where the jewelry sits on the surface of the skin rather than going through a fold or protrusion. Here are some examples:

  1. Nape Piercing: Located on the back of the neck, the nape piercing runs horizontally along the nape area. It can be adorned with a barbell or dermal tops.
  2. Hip Piercing: These piercings are placed on the pelvic or hip area, typically where low-rise pants would sit. They’re often done in pairs to create a symmetrical look.
  3. Madison Piercing: Positioned just above the collarbone, this surface piercing is named after the adult film actress Madison Stone, who popularized it.
  4. Sternum Piercing: Located in the middle of the chest, the sternum piercing sits between the breasts or along the breastbone.
  5. Corset Piercing: A more elaborate and decorative form, corset piercings consist of multiple surface piercings on the back, typically laced together with ribbons to resemble a corset.
  6. Anti-Eyebrow Piercing: Placed just below the eyebrow or on the upper cheekbone, this piercing adds a bold accent to the face.
  7. Cleavage Piercing: A surface piercing located on the cleavage area between the breasts, often chosen for its aesthetic appeal.
  8. Wrist Piercing: A less common form, wrist piercings are done on the inner or outer side of the wrist, offering a unique and edgy look.
  9. Finger Piercing: Placed along the side or top of a finger, this piercing mimics the look of a ring but is actually embedded in the skin.

Surface piercings require careful consideration due to their higher risk of rejection and migration, but when done properly, they can be stunning and unique body art.

Dermal piercings, also known as microdermals, offer a unique and striking way to adorn your body. Unlike traditional piercings that have a separate entry and exit point, dermal piercings are a bit different. Here's how they work:

  1. Anchor Insertion: The piercer creates a small hole and inserts an "anchor" into the middle layer of your skin (the dermis). This anchor acts as the base for the piercing.
  2. Securing the Jewelry: The base of the anchor is just long enough (typically 6 to 7 millimeters) to secure the post.
  3. Jewelry Attachment: The piercing jewelry, usually a bead or gem, is then screwed onto the post, resting on the surface layer of your skin. This creates the appearance of a bead or gem sitting directly on your skin.

The result is a stunning and subtle piece of body art that appears as though it's embedded in your skin.
